Anti-radar missiles are the best solution for SEAD (Surpression of Enemy Air Defence) missions. Missiles homing specific signals prevents effective use by blinding enemy air defence elements by eliminating hostile radar systems.
The U.S. Navy announced that the F/A-18 Super Hornet platforms were in the flight test phase during the integration of AGM-88G AARGM-ER (Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile-Extended Range) ammunition. In the process that started in early June, the first F/A-18E Super Hornet with captive missile flew in the Patuxtent River Test Range on June 1. In the trials, the platform tested its carrying and manoeuvrability with a series of manoeuvres.
Having a solid-fuel rocket/ramjet engine propulsion system, AARGM-ER offers double engagement range than its predecessor. Along with the F/A-18 E/F family, the EA-18G Growler and the F-35 Lightning II family were equipped with these systems, which have a more advanced warhead and control component.
