The US and Japan conducted missile tests to prevent short- and medium-range ballistic missiles. The prevention test conducted under the RIM-161 Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) Block IIA project has been successful. The SFTM-01 SM-3 Block IIA missile, launched on February 3rd from the USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53) destroyer, has been previously subjected to cruise tests twice. However, the system function was tested for the first time. The US-Japan partnership plans to deploy SM-3 Block IIA missiles on land and ship as part of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (Aegis Ballistic Missile Defecse / ABMD) and commission, in 2018.
