The US Navy has commissioned the first Virginia-class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10), on 10 June. Built by Austal USA, the LCS has a length of 128 meters and a beam of 31 meters. The 3 thousand 200-tonne ship uses two gas turbine and two diesel engines and able to reach speeds in excess of 40 knots.
