July 15, 2022New Domestic “SECTION50″ Delivery to Reis Class Submarines
The second and third deliveries of Section50 were made to the Naval Forces Command. Section50 is the head section containing submarine torpedo tubes produced for the first time in Turkey with national effort.
Two Section50’s, produced for Reis Class submarines, were delivered to Gölcük Naval Shipyard Command by sea.
The delivered Section50’s will be integrated into Aydın Reis and Seydi Ali Reis.
STM and GÜRDESAN delivered the first Section50 to be integrated into Murat Reis in September 2021.
The president of Defence Industry Prof. İsmail Demirtaş delivered the news on his social media accounts with the following:
“We continue to localize critical systems. We made the new deliveries of Section50, the head section containing submarine torpedo tubes, to Gölcük Naval Shipyard Command. Two counts of Section50, Aydın Reis and Seydi Ali Reis will be integrated into our submarines.”
Section50, the most critical part of the Reis class submarines, which will be the most modern submarine platform of the Turkish navy, includes submarine weapons and systems that allow the firing of guided missiles.
With the Section50 produced, Reis Class Submarines are armed with eight 533 mm torpedo tubes.
6 Reis Class Submarines are planned to deliver within this project’s scope.
The section containing the torpedo tubes on the first two submarines is produced by the German ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), which is the main contractor for this project.
The Section50 section, which will be located in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth submarines, is being produced for the first time in Turkey under the leading subcontractor of STM in GÜRDESAN.
New Type Submarine Project
In the project, which the Presidency of Defence Industries initiated to meet the Submarine Operations Concept criteria within the scope of the needs of the Naval Forces Command, six Reis class submarines are being built at the Gölcük Naval Shipyard Command with the maximum participation of the Turkish industry.
It aims to put into service six submarines equipped with weapons against underwater, surface and land targets within the scope of the New Type Submarine Project, which can launch many types of torpedoes, missiles and mines with its air-independent propulsion system.
Equipped with the Air Independent Propulsion System (AIP), Reis Class Submarines will be able to operate for weeks without coming to the surface.
The submarines, which have low–noise navigation capability, will have a length of 68 meters, a weight of over 2 thousand tons and a capacity of 40 personnel.
The first submarine Piri Reis (S-330), built in the Gölcük Dock as a part of the project, was launched in March 2021.
In the project, Hızır Reis Submarine Dock and Selman Reis Submarine First Welding Ceremony were held on May 23, 2022, with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The names of the Reis Class Submarines that will serve in the Turkish Naval Forces Command are as follows: TCG Piri Reis, TCG Hızır Reis, TCG Murat Reis, TCG Aydın Reis, TCG Seydi Ali Reis and TCG Selman Reis.
