February 20, 2019New Air Defense System to the Navy
MBDA introduces a new ship-based air defence system in NAVDEX. The platform called SPIMM (Self Protection Integrated Mistral Module) was developed on SIMBAD-RC.
SIMBAD-RC is a ship-mounted turret system, has two ready-to-launch missiles. Thanks to the 360-degree infrared panoramic imager, SPIMM can detect air and surface targets. The remote commanded SPIMM is controlled by two operators. The system, which can carry four spare missiles, can be effective against anti-ship missiles, aircrafts, helicopters and UAVs.
