After the earthquake that took place in Kahramanmaraş and affected many provinces, national mourning and a state of emergency were declared. Many institutions and organizations, especially the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), Ministry of National Defense (MND), Defense Industry Agency (DIA), started search and rescue activities.

After the earthquake disaster, the flags of NATO Allied Land Command (LANDCOM) in Izmir, NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Belgium, NATO Headquarters in Brussels and NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) in the USA were hoisted at half-mast.
