The UK’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) has signed a Project Phase 2 contract with MBDA to continue research into Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapons (RF DEW) technology.

$4,5 million contract, awarded on 26 February, covers an initial six-month period with an option to extend an additional 12 months. Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapons (RF DEW) have the potential to disrupt the operation of, or cause the failure of, a broad range of military electronic equipment by projecting electromagnetic energy from a transmitter onto a target.
