Malaysia Chose ASELSAN Tech for Its OPVs

According to IHS Jane's, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has selected ASELSAN's SMASH 30 mm remote controlled stabilised naval gun system for its three new offshore patrol vessels (OPVs). The service has also confirmed to IHS Jane's that the system will be positioned as the OPV's primary weapon, and will be complemented by a stern-facing 12.7 mm machine gun.

The SMASH system is fitted with a 30 mm Mk 44 Bushmaster-II cannon that fires 200 rds/min, and can be operated either via an operator console or in automatic tracking mode. In addition the weapon's independent electro-optic sensor, SMASH can also be configured to accept target data assigned by a host ship's suite of sensors.
