Lockheed Martin Australia Signs Memorandum of Understanding with UNSW Canberra Space

Lockheed Martin Australia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Canberra Space to contribute to a comprehensive space education program through research and development (R&D) and industry engagement pathways.

This landmark two-year agreement, which will support the deep collaboration between Lockheed Martin Australia and UNSW Canberra Space, represents part of Australia’s commitment to develop the skills and training opportunities it needs to strengthen and diversify its future space workforce.

Lockheed Martin’s Space Education Institute is expected to be an important building block of the program, allowing knowledge and experience to be shared with students. This coverage also offers the opportunity to train, teach and receive mentorship from Lockheed Martin Australia Fellows.

David Ball, Regional Director of Space, Lockheed Martin Australia shared his thoughts on the program with these expressions: ‘’ Lockheed Martin Australia has a long and enduring history in space. With our expertise and resources, we are in a unique position to help students develop core skills in space and space innovation. Building the capacity of the nation’s science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) workforce is an absolute priority for Lockheed Martin Australia. We look forward to paving the way for future space professionals and supporting a robust, sustainable and resilient industry through this collaboration with UNSW Canberra Space.’’

Russell Boyce, UNSW Canberra Space Director said: ‘’ UNSW is excited to take our space curriculum to the next level by building on its already established relationship with Lockheed Martin Australia. With its existing infrastructure, dedicated space capabilities and significant investment in future growth, Lockheed Martin Australia will help us provide unique learning opportunities for our students. With the support of Lockheed Martin Australia, we will take this program beyond textbooks and create an environment where students can pursue R&D projects and gain real-world industry experience that best prepares them to enter the space workforce.’’
