Malaysia and Japan signed an agreement on 18 April at DSA fair regarding expanding defence trade and related technology collaboration. In a joint statement, the two governments signed Transfer of Defence Equipment and Technology Agreement to facilitate military trade between the two countries.

This agreement establishes a legal framework for the governments of Japan and Malaysia regarding the transfer and handling of defence equipment and technology between the two governments in order to implement projects to be jointly determined including those contributing to international peace and stability.
