Russia plans to introduce an upgraded version of Iskander-M nuclear-capable tactical missile system by 2020. According to Rostec CEO Sergei Chemezov, the country intends to improve tactical missile systems in the next 10 years in accordance with the armament cluster strategy adopted on 5 April. The Iskander has been in service since 2007 and has a range of up to 500 km. It can be equipped to carry a variety of warheads types, including a high explosives (HE) variant, sub-munition dispenser variant, fuel-air explosive variant and a HE penetrator variant.
