The Indian Navy has commissioned the first Mk IV Landing Craft Utility (LCU) vessel on 28 March during a ceremony held at Port Blair. The vessel was designed and manufactured by state-owned shipyard Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE). The Navy will commission eight Mk IV LCUs in total. Having an overall length of 62,8 m, the vessel is powered by two MTU 16V 4000 M53 diesel engines, providing a maximum speed of 15 kt. The ship is able to carry 145 tonnes of military equipment in addition to 165 troops.
