The Royal Navy's largest ever warship the £3 billion HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier is set to leave port for the first time to undertake sea trials. The 65,000 ton vessel leaves the shipyard at Rosyth, Scotland. The ship will be the UK’s first aircraft carrier since the HMS Ark Royal was scrapped in 2010. Despite the upcoming trials, the carrier is not expected to be ready for action for several years. Among the QE class’ most intriguing characteristics will be its completely clear and uncluttered flight deck which will allow a large number of helicopters to be stationed ready for take-off or a large number of F-35s. A sister carrier, the HMS Prince Of Wales, is also under construction.
