High-speed Torpido Test Near Strait of Hormuz

Iran test fired its Hoot high-speed torpedo near the Strait of Hormuz on 7 May, Pentagon officials have told NBC news. Hoot is displayed for the first time during an exhibition in October 2015, however still in the testing phase. Reportedly, the torpedo is able to travel 11 km at 370 km/h, although It is unclear whether or not the test was a success.

Hoot uses supercavitation, which greatly reduces the skin friction drag on the object and allows the torpedo achieve very high speeds.

The Strait of Hormuz, located in the Persian Gulf, is considered one of the most important strategic locations in the Middle East. There has been no confirmation of the test from Tehran.
