India has successfully test-fired an upgraded Pinaka multi barrel rocket launcher (MBRL) from aunch Complex-III, ITR, Chandipur. Pinaka Rocket Mark-II is fitted with a navigation, guidance and control kit and has been converted to a “guided” Pinaka. India's Minister of Defense Manohar Parrikar stated that the upgraded multiple rocket launcher would give tremendous boost to the capability of Indian Armed Forces. Pinaka will gradually replace Russian SMERCH MBRL. Indian Army plans to commission 22 Pinaka regiments, 12 of which would be Guided Pinaka, by 2026. Each regiment consists of three batteries of six Pinaka launchers mounted on Tatra trucks.
