Russia will begin modernization and repair work on its aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, which will be equipped with the Kalibr-NK missile complex in replacement of carrier's current Granit complex. The work will also include repairment of all the electric-mechanical parts, as well as modernization of the runway.
Russia’s sole aircraft carrier was commissioned in 1990 and has not undergone any major overhauls following a two-year refit between 1996 and 1998. The upgrade is expected to extend the ship’s service life by 25 years.
