Germany requested four MQ-4C Triton unmanned aerial vehicle systems from the United States via Foreign Military Sales. If approved by the Congress, Germany will pay about $2.50 billion for UASs, mission control systems, Kearfott inertial navigation systems and related hardware and equipment. The platforms will be a modified version of the Triton of the US Navy.
In the relevant press release, it was stated that Germany would use Tritons for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions to support legitimate national security requirements and overall collective security of the European Union and NATO.
