The main equipment supply plan under Australia's “Future Submarine” program, covering construction of 12 submarines, has become clear . Programme head Rear Admiral Greg Sammut announced on 16 February that the supply agreements for the five main components of the program (engine, diesel generator, DC switchboard, battery and and weapon discharge system) will be signed early in 2018. Sammut added that they would also like to complete the combat system specification in the second half of 2018. The constuction of the first submarine within the program is planned to start in 2023.
