France will be Up-Armored with Scorpion

France has decided to increase its defense budget for the past month. Following this decision, France's defense budget for 2025 will reach 2% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This means 295 billion Euro will spend for defence in seven years by France.

After the budget increase, France stepped forward on the Scorpion Program. Through the Scorpion Program, it is planned that the (Groupement Tactique Inter-Armes / GTIA) will increase the number of communications and cooperation between combined arms tactical groups and that the troops will gain the necessary infrastructure for network-centric warfare. However, it is aimed to equip each vehicle with systems that can observe the tactical situation and exchange information with each other. Under the program, the French Army to procure 1,700 including Griffon 6×6 and Jaguar 4×4 vehicles. Program includes the modernization of 100 AMX-56 Leclerc tanks.

In the modernization package called Leclerc Scorpion or Leclerc XLR, tanks will be equipped with new vehicle electronics. The electronic hardware with open architecture will allow the vehicles to be configured according to user preferences. Among the electronics that can be integrated into the vehicles are the CONTACT communication system to developed by Thales and the Scorpion Information and Communication System (SICS) provided by Atos. Leclerc tanks will also be equipped with modular armor kits that provide protection against IEDs and RPG-type ammunition.
