First Unmanned Flight of VSR 700 in June

Airbus Helicopters announced that the VSR 700 unmanned aerial vehicle will perform its first flight in June 2018, which is developed under the Optionally Piloted Vehicle (OPV) project.

Platform developed on the Cabri G light helicopter which is production of Hélicoptères Guimbal.  VSR 700 is developed for the France's Dron System for the Navy (Système de Drone Aérien pour la Marine / SDAM), the future possible shipborne UAV procurement project.

The system powered by the Continental 155-hp CD-155 engine, has three blade low vibration main rotor with. The system has undergone a series of tests with 70 flying hours, including a pilot for safety under the tests. In the statement made by Hélicoptères Guimbal, it is stated that the helicopter could land on the ships in heavy sea conditions. The platform, which has a maximum take-off weight of 700 kilograms, can carry 100 kilograms of payloads. The VSR 700 can make eight-hour missions with light loads such as low-altitude surface radars and cameras within 80-mile distances from the ship.

Airbus Helicopters plans to put in the market VSR 700 platform between 2020 and 2023.
