The UK is rapidly approaching operational capability in the P-8 Poseidon process. The country's first P-8 Poseidon has arrived its home.
The first P-8 Poseidon, which has completed its training and pre-acceptance activities in the USA, has landed its base. The platform, which is stated to be deployed at the Kinloss Barracks of the RAF Lossiemouth stationed at Moray Coasts, is the first maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) landed 10 years after the last Nimrod MPA decommisioned by the Royal Air Force (RAF).
The P-8 Poseidon MPA, developed on the Boeing 737-800 commercial airliner, will perform tasks such as maritime patrols, anti-submarine warfare and surface warfare in coordination with the Royal Navy.
