The Finnish Armed Forces has contracted with EuroSpike GmbH, a joint venture of Rheinmetall Electronics GmbH, Diehl Defence and Rafael, for the supply of Spike anti-tank guided missiles.
This order, which is of great importance for Rheinmetall, also underlines the trust placed in EuroSpike GmbH. The German-Israeli joint venture is now the industrial mainstay of the anti-tank capabilities of many EU and NATO member states.
The Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) are among the first users of Spike. A version of the system known as the Multi-Role Light Guided Missile System (Mehrrollenfähiges Leichtes Lenkflugkörpersystem / MELLS) is in service with the Bundeswehr. Produced by EuroSpike, a joint venture in which Rheinmetall owns 40%, MELLS is capable of hitting armoured targets at ranges of up to 4,000 meters or, depending on the model, up to 5,500 meters.
Rheinmetall has extensive experience with MELLS. The company has already integrated this advanced guided missile into various combat vehicles.
