‘Early Warning’ Measure by South

The Republic of Korea announced its pursuit of long-range advanced early warning radar systems yesterday, in the face of growing threats by North Korea.

During a meeting presided over by Defence Minister Han Min-koo, the plan to purchase two advanced early warning radars, with the intention to increase capability to detect incoming missiles, has been officially approved. The country will begin acquisition process within this year.

The Republic of Korea currently operates two Israel-made Green Pine land-based radars and looks to acquire radars with the maximum range of 800 kilometers. Produced by Elta company, Green Pine radar has a maximum range of 500 km.
