Competition on Radar

US Marine Corps (USMC) has announced a  tender. The mechanical APG-73 radars of F/A-18 C and D aircraft which are in the USMC inventory will be replaced by the Active Electronic Scanned Array (AESA) radars. Procurement tender is not expected and didn't released in the annual plans.

Raytheon and Northrop Grumman responded to the Request for Proposal. Raytheon made a fitting check for its APG-79(V)4 radar. In addition, Northrop Grumman conducted a similar application for  it's Scaleable Agile Beam Radar (SABR). The results of the inspections have not been explained yet due to sensitivity of the program . The radar integration process is expected to commence in 2020, and the process is planned to be finalized in 2022. The USMC does not yet consider whether to delay the planned retirement of F / A-18 C / D planes for the 2030s, despite the modernization program.
