Malaysia will change the duty capabilities of CN-235 transport aircraft in its inventory. The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) confirmed that they intend to convert two of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) PT Dirgantara Indonesia CN-235 transport aircraft into Maritime Patrol Aircraft. General Affendi Buang, chief of The Malaysian Armed Force (MAF), stated that the mission systems to be used for the conversion will come from the US government under the Southeast Asia Maritime Security Initiative Program. There are seven PTDI CN-235M-220 operationally used for air transport roles in the No 1 Squadron of the Royal Malaysian Air Force. The United States is expected to supply Merlin maritime patrol system, radar, electro-optic sensor and electronic support systems to Malaysia for operational change.
