BAE Systems Australia Expands F-35 Territory

BAE Systems Australia announced that the Federal Government has welcomed the announcement of the approval of a Facility Services Deed supporting the expansion of the company’s F-35 sustain operations in Williamtown in the Hunter Valley.

The deed, valued at over $100 million, enables BAE Systems to meet the anticipated service and maintenance demand for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) F-35 Lightning II fleet. The construction of additional bays at BAE Systems’ South Hangar facility in Williamtown will provide significant opportunities for local employment, local suppliers and subcontractors.

All 72 F-35 jets are planned to be maintained and developed at Williamtown over the next three decades. To date, 56 F-35A Lightning II jets have been accepted by Australia and the entire fleet is expected to be delivered by the end of 2023.

Andrew Gresham, Managing Director of Defense Delivery at BAE Systems Australia, said: ‘’We welcome the Commonwealth’s announcement and look forward to working with the Royal Australian Air Force and our industry partners to deliver this vital capability. Our on-board team has deep knowledge of the F-35 and will offer a proven and collaborative approach focused on reliable delivery today and innovative ways to sustain the F-35 fleet into the future. This is another example of how BAE Systems is helping deliver next-generation aerial capability and building local industry to help keep Australia safe.’’
