Turkish Aerospace Industries' (TAI's) indigenous unmanned aerial vehicle ANKA is preparing to reach a new milestone. ANKA's mass production version of Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) class ANKA-S begins satellite-controlled flights. ANKA took off for its first flight approximately 7 years ago on 30 December 2010 after it was rolled out for the first time on 16 July 2010. On 25 October 2013, the first mass production ANKA-S contract was signed covering 10 platforms. 

Having started flight tests in the last quarter of 2016, the aircraft is now preparing for satellite-controlled test flights. When asked about ANKA's date of entrance inventory, TAI's General Manager Temel Kotil told C4Defence that ANKA-S was now undergoing flight tests and it will soon be in the inventory. According to the information obtained by C4Defence, qualification and acceptance tests will be completed after completion of satellite controlled tests.

The ANKA-S system, which has been developed with the ability to remote-controlled via satellite and Turkish Armed Forces Communication System (TAFICS), has been enhanced with autonomy features, through new generation national high resolution (HD) day and night camera and wireless relay useful loads.
