The US Navy decided to use an advanced version of Lockheed Martin-made IRST21 sensor system on Boeing F/A -18 E/F fighter jets. The Block 2 version of IRST21 system will be integrated onto the aircraft with this $100 million decision. The new system will enable the Super Hornets to detect and identify targets from a longer distance. IRST21 sensor systems will be placed on the nose of the central fuel tank.
