Amphibious APC Failed In-water Tests

The Indonesian Marine Corps (Korps Marinir: KORMAR) has completed initial training process on Ukrainian BTR-4 amphibious armored personnel carriers (APCs) that were delivered to the service in September 2016. However, KORMAR encountered some technical issues during the trainings when they operated the APCs at full speed in the water and now reconsidering further acquisition of the vehicles. Manufactured by Ukrain’s state-owned defence company UkrOboronProm, BTR-4 APCs were ordered by Indonesian Ministry of Defence (MoD) in February 2014. The service is to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the issues, after which it will decide on whether to acquire further vehicles. The 8×8 amphibious vehicle can reach a top speed of 110 km/h on the ground and 10 km/h in water.
