Eglin Air Force Base announced on 04th January that two of the new variants of Boeing’s fourth-generation fighter aircraft fired air-to-air missiles from two new weapons stations on a test flight over the Gulf of Mexico on 29th November.

The F-15EX Eagle II improves the US Air Force’s (USAF) capability to carry more missiles than any other warplane. In the statement, the test was described as an important step towards demonstrating that the F-15EX can carry the planned 12 air-to-air missile capabilities. In this way, it was reported that the F-15EX can carry more missiles than any other F-15, capable of carrying up to eight air-to-air missiles.

Pilots fired an AIM-120 and an AIM-9X at a target drone in separate passes over the water range of the Eglin Test and Training Complex. Major Jeremy Schnurbusch, a pilot of the 40th Flight Test Squadron, fired the AIM-9X missile, and Major Brett Hughes of the Operational Flight Program Combined Test Force fired the AIM-120.

Hughes shared: “As part of the Eglin F-15EX team from day one, it’s exciting to see the progress made and new milestones achieved as we work to field the most combat-capable F-15EX.”

Commander of the test force, Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Wee, said: “The F-15EX is an incredible addition to the USAF inventory. Conducted by a world-class team of test pilots, engineers and experts, this event proves once again that the F-15EX will be ready when our enemies challenge our nation’s interests. ”
