BAE Systems has been awarded a $542 million contract to provide M777 howitzers to India through foreign military sales between the U.S. and Indian governments. The company announced the news on its website on 12 January. Under the agreement, Indian Army will receive 145 howitzers, deliveries to begin in June, 2017. The 155 mm ultra lightweight howitzer weighs 4 thousand 200 kilograms and is currently in use with the US Army and Marine Corps.
