The US Army has placed an order to GE Aviation for the continued production of T700 turboshaft engines in support of Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and other government agency program requirements through 2019. The contract covers 2 thousand 500 engines with a total value of $1 billion.
The T700/CT7 turboshaft engine entered service in 1978 in the Black Hawk. Having surpassed delivery of 20 thousand units, T700/CT7 family now powers 15 types of helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
