The European Commission has invested 1.2 billion euros from the European Defence Fund to work on various defence projects, including next-generation warplanes.
In its statement, the Commission stated that the European funds approved on Monday will support defence technologies such as “next generation warplanes, armoured vehicles, ships, space, cyber, military cloud, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and medical considerations”. The fund was created in 2019 and has a budget of 7.9 billion euros for the period 2021-2027. The EU, on the other hand, aims to support cooperation in the development of defence and military technologies.
Within the scope of the projects, approximately 100 million Euros are expected to be allocated to the European Hypersonic Defence Interceptor (EU HYDEF) project developed by the Spanish Sener company for 2035. In another project, 75 million Euros is expected to be transferred to the European Initiative for Collaborative Air Combat Standardization (EICACS) project developed by the French company Dassault Aviation.
