Israeli Defence Forces have introduced a new model of the Merkava main battle tank. The tank equipped with special equipment for asymmetric warfare conditions is called Merkava Mark 4 Barak.
Merkava Mk. 4 Barak has a smart mission computer. Merkava Mk. 4 Barak is the first tank withthis feature. Mission computer can manage the missions of the tank. The tank also stands out with features such as artificial intelligence, improved sensors and Virtual Reality (VR). Improved electronics reduce the workload on the crew, while improving accuracy. Thanks to the electronic architecture, the mission readiness time of the crew is also reduced, and the duration of the tank can be increased by up to 30% compared to the equivalents when necessary. Thanks to the virtual reality based training system, the training period is shortened while training costs are reduced.
Elbit developed the Iron View for the tank crew specially. With Iron View the soldier can see the environment of the tank without leaving the tank. In addition, thanks to the cameras that provide high-resolution instant image transfer, the system makes crew's vision weather-independent, and transfers data to C4I (Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence, Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence). Personnel can switch gun sight, sight, UAV view or any video source linked to tanks with Iron View. Elbit aims to minimize the motion sickness of the crew due to long-term electro-optic use of the system with the algorithm developed for Iron View.
