U.S. Approves F-35 Sale

The U.S. Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has approved the possible sale of the F-35 Lightning II and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet aircraft to Switzerland. The DSCA said the possible sale would increase Switzerland's capacity to meet current and future threats. Accordingly, the possible sale of 40 F-35s and 40 Super Hornet aircraft worth $6.58 billion to Switzerland has become possible. The Swiss people, who voted Sunday (September 27th) to purchase new fighter jets, agreed to the government's spending plan with 50.1% of the vote.

Switzerland, which is expected to spend $6.5 billion on the purchase of fighter jets, will choose between Airbus's Eurofighter, France's Dassault's Rafale, Boeing's F/A-18 Super Hornet or the Lockheed Martin F35-A Lightning II.

The planes will replace Switzerland's fleet of F/A-18 Hornets, which will be out of service in 2030.
