Under the agreement signed with Ukraine, it was decided to build the first of the Island Class corvettes to be produced in Turkey and the other three platforms at the Okean shipyard in Nikolayev, Ukraine.

Nikolai Gapeev, head of Ocean Shipyard’s Marketing Department, announced that work has begun on the construction of corvettes.

It was announced at the meeting that the main contract with Turkish contractors will be signed by April as part of the project.

Nikolai Gapeev said they held a meeting with the firm at the end of January and that “as many Ukrainian businesses as possible” would be involved in the corvette-building process.
