NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg on Tuesday hailed the approval by a key Turkish parliamentary committee of Sweden’s bid to join the alliance, bringing closer the end of a 19-month standoff. “I welcome the vote by the Turkish parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee to ratify Sweden’s NATO membership,” Stoltenberg said, urging Turkey and fellow holdout Hungary to complete their ratifications “as soon as possible”.
