North Korea successfully test-fired an intermediate-range solid-fuel ballistic missile, state-run news agency KCNA said early Monday, confirming prior reports from South Korea. The Sunday firing of the missile, which the North said was loaded with a hypersonic maneuverable controlled warhead, was aimed at “verifying the gliding and maneuvering characteristics,” as well as the “reliability of newly developed multi-stage high-thrust solid-fuel engines,” according to the Korean Central News Agency.
