Germany has
decided to rent Israel’s most recent UAV, build by Israel Aerospace Industries
(IAI) Heron TP unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as an interim solution for the Bundeswehr’s
medium altitude, long endurance (MALE) UAV requirements.
The
decision was announced to the German parliament (Bundestag) on 12 January. The
new UAV will enter service in 2018. Germany will fly with IAI Heron 1 UAVs
until Heron TP enters into service. Heron 1 served to the Bundeswehr in
Afghanistan.
