Turkish Navy’s retired Rear Admiral Cihad Yayci became the head of Maritime and Global Strategy Centre. A ceremony was held today with the participation of Yaycı. Yaycı resigned from his position from the Naval Forces Command and retired in early summer, He is starting his new career at Bahçeşehir University (BAU). Yaycı will be the director of the Maritime and Global Strategy Centre to be established here.
The Centre aims to fill the information gap that exists in the maritime sector in Turkey. The works will not be limited to a single area. Centre will focus on law, politics and critical analysis in areas such as international relations and will aim to create documents by political considerations.
The centre will publish seminars on many topics such as the Aegean Islands, international maritime law, strategy, continental shelf and the announcement of an exclusive economic zone. To organize seminars and become an international think tank, names such as Ebru Canan Sokullu and former Maritime Minister Burhan Kara will also take part. Under the BAU Global umbrella, the centre will merge with its system in its wide networks such as Washington DC, Berlin, Northern Cyprus and Batumi; will work on solving problems in the maritime industry.
Delivering a speech at the opening of the centre, Yaycı pointed out that the name of the Aegean Sea has a Greek origin and offered to be called the Sea of Islands instead of Aegean.
