Ukrainian Air Force Renewing

During high military tension in 2018, Ukraine has continued to renew its army. Ukroboronprom announced the country's activities in 2018.

Within the scope of the modernization works carried out in 2018, 50 aircraft were renewed and delivered to the Ukrainian Air Force. In addition to the Su-27, MiG-29, Su-25, Su-25 combat jets, the An-26 and Il-76 transport aircraft, L-39 jet trainer, Mi-24, Mi-14 and Mi-8 helicopters were modernized.

Ukroboronprom is not only modernized in the works carried out with other facilities and companies in the country. The subsystems are made to comply with Western and NATO standards. Within deep modernization, Russian-origin components are replaced by domestic or Western counterparts. In addition, the capabilities of the aircraft are being increased. The MiG-29s were upgraded to MiG-29MU1, and the Su-27s were upgraded to Su-27-1M level which making them more efficient by 30%.

Along with similar changes to other aircraft, Westernization studies are being carried out. In this context, it is aimed to equip An-188 transport aircraft with completely NATO standard subsystems. Ukraine signed a cooperation agreement with Turkish firms for this project.
