The Presidency of Defence Industries launched the Domestic Pistol Development Project in 2019 to equip the security forces with a modern and lightweight, effective gun. In this context, it was announced that more than 200,000 weapons were delivered to the users in the past days.

In the tender, hard specifications determined. These were 12 cm spread shooting from 25 meters, preserving effectiveness at high temperature, suitable for use in low temperature conditions and barrel life of 30,000 shots. Samsun Yurt Savunma TP9 SF Mete and Sarsılmaz production SAR9 Mete pistols have won the tender where all the limits of weapons were pushed. Samsun Yurt Savunma will produce 100,000 and Sarsilmaz was responsible for the production of more than 180,000 weapons in the process, which is expected to exceed 280,000 units.

TP9 SF Mete, developed and produced under the contractor of Canik within Samsun Yurt Savunma, was designed to meet the needs of special force operators that perform precision tasks such as direct offensives and small-scale attacks. Thanks to its modular structure, the weapon offers the opportunity to be used with single hand without loss of performance, it is suitable for ambidextrous use thanks to the bolt latch and magazine latch in a structure suitable for double-sided use. TP9 SF Mete feeds from a magazine with 15 or 18 rounds capacity. The gun, which is 182 mm long, 133.5 mm wide, has a 103.5 mm long forged steel alloy barrel and trigger guard in that suitable for use with gloves. In the pistol, which can use 9×19 mm Parabellum ammunition and weigh only 745 grams with an empty magazine, polymer composite material was preferred to reduce the weight for the manufacture of the body and the grip. The gun was equipped with MIL-STD-1913 rail, suitable for the use of equipment such as flashlights and laser pointers under the barrel. In the TP9 SF Mete, which prioritizes security, the user can easily check the chamber situation and the firing pin with the help of indicators on the gun. In addition, situations such as accidental firing of the weapon are prevented with the safe single-action trigger structure. Thanks to its slide structure, Mete can be used with micro reflex sights.
