Hürjet is an important milestone in the Turkish aviation industry’s journey which evolved from exporting to joint production and to finally national and indigenous production.

When the development of the Turkish defence and aviation industry is examined historically, the US embargo implemented after the second phase of the Cyprus Peace Operation is usually emphasised. This embargo, which was implemented between 1975 and 1978 and significantly deteriorated the combat readiness of the Turkish Armed Forces, was also a reminder of the strategical importance of a national defence industry and left a critical impact on the collective memory of the public.
