The first test launch of Russia’s land and sea attack hypersonic missile Tsirkon fired from the Project 22350 frigate Admiral Gorshkov, two sources told TASS. It was underlined that the range of Tsirkon exceeded 500 kilometers in the test, which was stated to be conducted against the land target in the Barents Sea. Sources said that missile tests will continue throughout 2020 and the process will continue in nuclear submarines after the tests in the Admiral Gorshkov frigate have been completed.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had stated in 2019 that the Tsirkon is capable of Mach 9 speed and that there were plans to deploy Tsirkon on warships built for launching Kalibr cruise missiles.
