India and the United Kingdom have been developing a new aircraft in order to cultivate their position in Asian defence market. Under the project, jointly conducted by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and BAE Systems, seven weapons stations and a laser designation pod will be integrated on the Hawk training aircraft. Advanced Hawk will have new wing design and will be able to carry three thousand kg of ammunition. The project, which began two years ago, is expected to be announced later this month. The first flight is expected to take place in March. BAE Systems foresees sales over three hundred Advanced Hawk trainers.
