Three Combat Jets for Replacement

In the Cold War period, the workhorse combat aircraft of the countries are at the end of their useful life. The processes initiated for the acquirement of new platforms partially continues.

Germany isseeking for the platform that will replace Tornado aircraft that are planned to be retired in the near future. This equation consists many unknowns, which has become a problem for Germany, is close to the solution. A report published in German press stated that the candidates became clear. According to unconfirmed information, the Luftwaffe will procure three different platforms to replace Tornadoes.

Luftwaffe plans to acquire 90 Eurofighter Typhoon T3, 45 F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet and 15 EA-18G Growler to replace the Tornado jets that will retire after many years of mission. It is stated that German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer has not yet approved the plan. In the process, which many aircraft shown as candidates, the previous Minister Ursula von der Leyen had reduced number of candidates to two and stated that there would be a choice between Eurofighter Typhoon and F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet.

Germany plans to acquirement of the new generation FCAS aircraft developed jointly with France in the 2040s.
