Third LCU Commissioned to IN

The Indian Navy has commissioned its third Landing Craft Utility (LCU) Mk-IV vessel INLCU L53 on April 25. 

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) designed and built the vessel which will be used for the transport of combat equipment. The amphibious ship displaces 830 tons and is capable of transporting main battle tanks Arjun, T72 and other armored vehicles. Having an overall length of 62,8 m, the vessel is powered by two MTU 16V 4000 M53 diesel engines, providing a maximum speed of 15 kt. The ship is able to carry 145 tonnes of military equipment in addition to 165 troops.

The Navy will commission eight Mk IV LCUs in total.
