The First Tide-class Ship Arrived in the UK

The first Daewoo-built Military Afloat Reach and Sustainability (MARS) Tanker ship, Tidespring, has arrived in the United Kingdom for customisation and trials on 2 April. The UK Royal Fleet Auxiliary's (RFA's) Tide-class tanker was built under a $562 million contract inked in 2012, covering the construction of four Tide-class tankers.

Having a displacement of 37 thoousand tonnes, the ships will provide replenishment/logistic support, such as fuel, food, fresh water, ammunition and other supplies to the UK's Royal Navy vessels around the world.

Upon the completion of customisation and trials, All four MARS tankers are expected to be in service by the end of 2018.
