‘INS Kalvari’, the first of six Scorpene-class submarines ordered by India, was handed over to Indian Navy on 22 September. The submarines, designed by French naval defence company DCNS, are being built by Mazagon Dock Limited in Mumbai as part of Project-75 of the Indian Navy.
The second of the Scorpenes, INS Khanderi, was launched in January this year and is currently undergoing sea trials while the third sub, INS Karanj, is expected to be launched before the end of 2017.
