The Dardanelles from the Viewpoint of Those Who Could not Pass

Michael Forrest’s 2013 book named “The Defence of the Dardanelles: From Bombards to Battleships” was translated into Turkish by İsmail Hakkı Yılmaz in 2017 as “Çanakkale Boğaz Savunması – Şahi Toplardan Savaş Gemilerine.”

A veteran of the aviation industry living in Emsworth, Hampshire, Michael Forrest is an expert on 19th and 20th century fortifications.

The original book in English is 272 pages long, while its Turkish translation covers 368 pages. The book begins with the history of trials and tribulations to pass the Dardanelles. The original book’s short summary depicts how the Straits of Dardanelles separating Europe and Asia Anatolia were fortified in the 15th century and how unwelcome ships had to run a formidable gauntlet.
